Hollywood’s Concerns Over Biden Hurt Democratic Fundraising

Hollywood has always supported the Democratic Party with lots of money. But now, many in Hollywood are worried about President Joe Biden’s age and are pulling back their support, even though Biden has said he won’t step aside despite pressure from his party.
Some famous Hollywood donors, like George Clooney and novelist Ayelet Waldman, have publicly withdrawn their support for Biden. Waldman said she stopped donating because she is in a “gut-curdling panic” over Biden’s candidacy.
Screenwriter Damon Lindelof also called for Democrats to stop giving money until the president steps down. This message was supported by other big names like Abigail Disney, John Cusack, Stephen King, and Rob Reiner, who are all worried about Biden’s chances in the next election.
Reiner said on social media, “We need someone younger to fight back. Joe Biden must step aside.” Disney also said she would stop donating until Biden is replaced, believing that if he stays in the race, the Democrats will lose.
Not everyone agrees with this approach. Some, like podcaster Jack Hopkins, think criticizing Biden only weakens the party and helps Trump. An anonymous Democratic donor also said it was foolish to stop donating, stating, “If I have a choice between someone older and someone bad, I know which one I’d pick.”
Michael Douglas, who hosted a fundraiser for the president, was disappointed in Biden’s debate performance against Trump and doubted Biden could serve a full term if re-elected.
Financially, Biden is also facing challenges. The Trump campaign recently raised more money than Biden, adding to the pressure on him. Despite this, he insists he is the best candidate to beat Trump.
Mark Pincus, founder of Zynga, believes Biden’s age is a big problem and suggested the party should have an open convention to find a new candidate. Waldman agreed, saying the party needs to excite voters with a new candidate or risk losing the election.
With Hollywood donors pulling back, the Democratic Party faces a tough situation. Internal disagreements and financial pressures are making Biden’s re-election campaign more difficult.
