USAID Headquarters Closes Monday; Musk Claims Trump Supports Agency Shutdown

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) unexpectedly closed its Washington headquarters on Monday, according to emails sent to some staff members.
Reports from Fox News Digital and The Associated Press noted that some USAID employees were locked out of the agency’s computer systems overnight.
This closure is linked to comments made by Elon Musk, who is leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). In a discussion on the social media platform X, Musk said that President Donald Trump agrees with his view that the U.S. Agency for International Development should be shut down.
Musk criticized the agency heavily, calling it “a bowl of worms” and saying it’s “beyond repair.”
Musk continued to attack USAID over the weekend, making harsh statements against it on X. He called USAID a “criminal organization” and described it as a “viper’s nest of radical-left marxists who hate America.” These statements suggest a significant change in policy under the current administration.
Furthermore, the USAID website was taken down on Saturday, signaling that the shutdown might be serious. Musk has praised President Trump during these discussions, saying he has grown to like him more and more.
These developments raise questions about the future of U.S. international aid and the situation inside the U.S. Agency for International Development as it faces intense criticism and potential closure under President Trump’s administration.
