UK Prime Minister Proposes Ukraine Peace Plan; Zelenskyy Faces Resignation Pressure

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and other European leaders, proposed a new framework for peace between Ukraine and Russia during a summit with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in London.

Acknowledging the significant reliance on U.S. support, Starmer emphasized the need for European nations to increase their contributions to security measures for Ukraine.

The proposed peace plan includes a commitment by the UK to deploy ground and air forces in Ukraine to enforce the agreement, highlighting the necessity of strong U.S. involvement in the initiative.

Macron detailed a specific proposal to halt military actions including air and sea strikes, as well as attacks on energy infrastructure, for a 30-day period to foster negotiations for a comprehensive peace deal.

This meeting occurred against the backdrop of tense interactions between Zelenskyy and U.S. leadership, following a contentious discussion with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance at the White House.

In these discussions, Zelenskyy remained resolute on strengthening Ukraine’s military capabilities, viewing them as vital to the nation’s security and resilience.

The encounter with U.S. leaders also sparked a call from Senator Lindsey Graham for Zelenskyy to resign or alter his approach, highlighting a strained relationship that could influence the peace talks.
