Rapper Tory Lanez was reportedly stabbed during an altercation at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi on the morning of Monday, May 12, according to TMZ.
Sources say the incident occurred while Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was in the prison yard. He was quickly transported to a hospital in Bakersfield for treatment. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and authorities have yet to release details on the inmate responsible.
The 31-year-old artist is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion — a case that drew national attention and sparked widespread conversations about violence, celebrity culture, and accountability.
While incarcerated, Lanez has continued to focus on music. In March, he announced a forthcoming album titled Peterson, a nod to his surname and a follow-up to his controversial 2020 project Daystar.
He described the new body of work as a personal comeback, saying, “Dear 2025 … This COMEBACK is PERSONAL, ALBUM NAME – PETERSON, SEQUEL OF – DAYSTAR.” Lanez also noted the album would belong to a genre he calls “SLUTTY BASS.”
His musical ambitions have been met with mixed reactions. Fellow Canadian artist PARTYNEXTDOOR appeared to take a jab at Lanez in a recent track, prompting Lanez to respond on social media. The brief back-and-forth led to an apology from PND, though Lanez dismissed it as insincere.
Despite the prison sentence and controversy surrounding his name, Lanez has remained publicly defiant and creatively active. However, this latest incident raises questions about his safety behind bars and whether ongoing tensions may escalate further.
As of now, prison officials have not released an official statement regarding the stabbing. Lanez’s condition is reported to be stable and the injury is said to be non-life-threatening.
