Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown was briefly detained by Miami police following gunfire and a physical altercation outside a boxing event hosted by streamer Adin Ross in the early hours of May 17.
According to police, officers were dispatched after the city’s ShotSpotter system detected gunshots near the venue. Social media footage soon emerged showing Brown in the middle of a chaotic fight, appearing to wrestle with multiple individuals and allegedly kicking a security guard.
CNN reports that Brown was seen wielding a black firearm while chasing another person just moments before shots were fired off-camera. No injuries were reported, and no arrests were made at the scene.
Brown later addressed the incident on Ross’s livestream via Kick, attributing his behavior to Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease linked to repeated head trauma in contact sports.
“I blacked out, Adin… I don’t know what happened,” Brown said during the livestream. “I got CTE.”
In a follow-up post on X (formerly Twitter), Brown claimed he was ambushed by several people attempting to steal his jewelry. “I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me,” he wrote. Brown also stated he was only temporarily detained by police to provide a statement and was later released without charges.
“Contrary to some videos circulating, I went home that night and was not arrested,” he said, adding that he plans to consult his attorneys and pursue legal action against those involved in the alleged attack.
Despite Brown’s claim of detainment, video footage circulating online appeared to show him in handcuffs. However, Miami Police spokesperson Officer Kiara Delva confirmed that no arrests were made and no injuries were reported during the incident. The investigation into the gunfire is ongoing, and no other suspects have been named.
Once a Super Bowl champion, Brown’s post-NFL life has been marked by a string of controversies and legal troubles. This latest incident adds to a growing list of headline-making moments involving the former athlete.
