Whoopi Goldberg Questions Trump’s Fitness After UN Speech

On Wednesday’s episode of The View, the co-hosts sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s address to the United Nations General Assembly, with several questioning his leadership and mental fitness following the remarks.

Sara Haines opened the segment with a barbed aside about the reaction inside Trump’s circle, calling the speech “a train wreck.” Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin labeled the address “embarrassing,” with Behar adding, “The world is laughing at us,” according to Decider.

“I just feel like someone died yesterday watching that, like his people, his team, because that was just a train wreck,” Hines said on the show.

Whoopi Goldberg voiced broader concerns about Trump’s competence, arguing he squandered a chance to speak seriously to a global audience. “He had an opportunity to do so much more than he offered them, and they don’t consider him to be serious anymore,” she said. “I’m worried.”

Hostin raised the constitutional mechanism for removing an unfit president, noting that questions about “competence and mental acuity” fall under the 25th Amendment. Goldberg suggested she would have applied the same standard to President Joe Biden in a similar situation:

“If Biden had acted like this I would have said, ‘Yeah, take him.’ This was not presidential and this was not helpful.”

The panel’s critique echoed talking points once leveled at Biden by Republican critics, flipping the script as 2024’s political rhetoric continues to reverberate around high-profile stages like the UN.
