Shirley Raines, the founder and chief executive officer of the nonprofit Beauty 2 The Streetz, has died at the age of 58, the organization announced Wednesday on Instagram.
Her family and the nonprofit have not disclosed a specific medical cause of death, and authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy before releasing further details.
According to early reports, no foul play is suspected. Raines was found unresponsive during a wellness check at her home in Henderson, Nevada. Family members said she had been in good health and was not taking any medication at the time of her death.
Born on December 29, 1967, Raines was a mother of six. Her commitment to service was shaped in part by the loss of a young son in 1990. She later described the experience as a defining moment that redirected her life toward helping others.
Raines’s Beauty 2 The Streetz is known for providing basic needs outreach, including food, clothing, and hygiene supplies, self-care and beauty services to restore dignity to homeless people.
Raines’s influence extended beyond direct outreach. She had more than five million followers across social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, which she used to challenge stereotypes about homelessness and highlight the humanity of people living in poverty.
“Through her tireless advocacy, deep compassion, and unwavering commitment, she used her powerful media platform to amplify the voices of those in need and to bring dignity, resources, and hope to some of the most underserved populations,” the nonprofit said.
So far, large numbers of volunteers, supporters, and community members have been paying respect to Raines since her passing. According to her nonprofit, it is still dedicated to carrying out its outreach initiatives and upholding the goals she set forth.
