Blue Ivy Carter is set to make her voice-acting debut alongside her mother, Beyoncé, in Disney’s upcoming prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King.
The announcement came with the release of the film’s trailer on April 29, where 12-year-old Blue Ivy was revealed as part of the cast.
This new venture adds to her already impressive resume, which includes a guest appearance during her mother’s Renaissance World Tour.
Blue Ivy will voice the character Kiara, the daughter of Simba and Nala, in the film that focuses on Mufasa’s journey to becoming king.
Directed by Barry Jenkins, the movie follows in the footsteps of Disney’s 2019 adaptation, featuring live-action-style animals.
The film also brings back much of the original cast, including Donald Glover and Beyoncé as Simba and Nala.
Newcomers Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. join the cast as the young Mufasa and Scar, respectively.
Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner return to reprise their roles as Pumbaa and Timon.
Although the trailer did not provide a preview of Blue Ivy’s voice acting, fans are eagerly awaiting her performance in the film.
The young star has already proven her talent on stage, most recently during the Renaissance concert film, which showcased her preparation and performances at major venues around the world.
In the concert film, Beyoncé revealed her initial reservations about allowing Blue Ivy to perform, given the young age and pressure of such a significant platform.
However, Blue Ivy’s dedication and resilience won out as she honed her dance moves and delivered impressive performances.
“It was magical,” said the proud mother. “Her confidence just grew and grew. It was a beautiful thing for her.”
Now, Blue Ivy will bring her talents to the big screen, adding another achievement to her list. Mufasa: The Lion King premieres in theaters on December 20.
