Doja Cat Claps Back at Internet Trolls Targeting Her Natural Hair

In a recent Instagram Live session, 28-year-old rapper Doja Cat, also known as Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, didn’t mince words as she addressed critics who made derogatory comments about her natural hair.

The backlash came after she shared a close-up image of her curly locks, teasing her upcoming single, “MASC.”

Calling out the negative remarks, Doja Cat expressed her frustration with comments likening her natural hair to “carpet” or “sheep’s wool.”

“I’m seeing a pattern. I’m seeing a consistent pattern in my comments section of people saying, is my hair pubic hair, is it carpet, or is it sheep’s wool,” she stated during the Instagram Live, according to Pop Crave. “And it’s not even questions… some people are being like, that’s what it is.”

Despite ongoing efforts to promote acceptance of Black women’s natural hair textures, Doja Cat highlighted the prevalence of critics comparing her 4C hair pattern – characterized by tight curls and dense coils – to various undesirable objects.

“We gotta move forward. Let’s move forward. Let’s grow,” she urged her followers. “I can’t tell you what to do. I’m not your f***ing parents. I don’t wanna say too much.”

Doja Cat Amala’s Decision to Shave Her Head

This isn’t the first time the “Paint The Town Red” rapper has encountered negative commentary about her appearance. In 2022, she faced backlash after shaving her head and eyebrows.

Following the drastic transformation, she initially expressed happiness but later slammed critics for reducing her to mere sexual appeal. “I won a Grammy and travelled the fking globe, I’ve had a #1 and I went platinum. I make hit after hit after hit and you all want me to look fkable for you … go f**k yourselves,” she wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

In an Instagram Live, the “Say So” singer disclosed that she shaved her head because she “never liked having hair” and found dealing with wigs frustrating, particularly during workouts. “I, like, don’t like having hair. I never liked having hair.

I cannot tell you one time, since the beginning of my life, that I’ve ever been like: ‘This is cool,'” she shared with her followers. “I just do not like to have hair.”

Doja Cat revealed that her wigs would often “start sliding and peeling off of my head” during exercise routines, expressing surprise that it took her so long to opt for a shaved head.
