Lil Wayne Inducted into NOLA Walk of Fame

New Orleans is adding a new attraction called the “NOLA Walk of Fame” to celebrate local artists and advocates who have helped shape the city’s identity. The first person to be honored is rap icon Dwayne “Lil Wayne” Carter Jr.

The Walk of Fame was created by Percy “Master P” Miller, a New Orleans rapper, businessman, and the city’s entertainment ambassador. The project is part of the city’s efforts to prepare for the 2025 Super Bowl, which will bring global attention to New Orleans.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell spoke about the importance of honoring the city’s stars. “As we get ready to host Super Bowl LIX, it’s important to recognize the amazing people who represent the heart and soul of New Orleans,” she said.

Lil Wayne, one of 50 people being honored, received his plaque at this year’s Weezyana Fest. His plaque, featuring the famous Fleur De Lis, will be located at the corner of Canal Place and Rampart Street.

At the event, Mayor Cantrell also gave Lil Wayne the key to the city and declared February 6 and 7 as “Lil Wayne Days.”

Wayne, who first gained fame as a member of the rap group Hot Boys, was emotional as he accepted the honor. “This is your city saying to you: you matter—for what you’ve done, what you’re doing, and what you’ll keep doing,” Mayor Cantrell said.

Mixed Feelings About the City

Despite the honor, Lil Wayne has recently voiced frustration with New Orleans. He was upset when the NFL chose Kendrick Lamar as the halftime performer for the 2025 Super Bowl, a slot he felt he deserved.

At Weezyana Fest, he told fans, “It was taken from me. But this moment right here? They can’t take that.”

Still, the Walk of Fame and events like Weezyana Fest highlight how much the city values Lil Wayne and his contributions. His festival has become an important event for New Orleans, much like the famous Essence Festival.

The NOLA Walk of Fame is designed to honor people like Lil Wayne, ensuring their contributions are remembered for years to come. As New Orleans prepares for the Super Bowl, this new project shows the city’s pride in its people and culture.
