Wendy Williams Unlikely to Return to TV Amid Health and Legal Issues

Wendy Williams, the former daytime TV star, is not expected to return to television. According to a report from the New York Post, court documents filed on November 12 reveal that Williams is suffering from serious cognitive decline, which prevents her from managing her personal and professional life.

Williams’ lawyer, Sabrina Morrissey, has filed a lawsuit against the Lifetime network and others involved in creating the documentary Where Is Wendy Williams?.

The lawsuit claims that Lifetime and its partners exploited Williams’ poor health to create the documentary without her proper consent.

The lawsuit names A&E Television Networks (Lifetime’s parent company), Lifetime Entertainment Services, EOne Productions, Creature Films, and the documentary’s executive producer, Mark Ford.

It accuses them of “cruelly taking advantage” of Williams when she was vulnerable and unable to make clear decisions.

Lifetime’s Response

The defendants have countersued, saying that Williams agreed to the documentary and was involved in its creation before her diagnosis. They argue she negotiated the terms, signed contracts, and gave creative input.

The countersuit accuses Morrissey of filing the lawsuit to cover up her own failure to protect Williams. They claim the legal action is a “misguided effort” to shift blame.

In 2022, Williams was placed under court-ordered guardianship after concerns were raised about her mental health and financial behavior. Wells Fargo Bank froze her accounts, saying her financial transactions had become “erratic.”

This led to a diagnosis of alcohol-related brain damage and frontotemporal dementia.

The court appointed Sabrina Morrissey as Williams’ legal guardian, giving her control over Williams’ finances and medical care. However, Williams’ family has criticized the guardianship, saying it has caused a rift in their relationships.

They claim Morrissey has limited Williams’ contact with her family, including her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., and often keeps her location secret.
