Sean Diddy Combs’ legal team filed a motion on April 26 to dismiss certain claims in one of the sexual assault lawsuits against him, arguing that the laws in question were not in effect at the time of the alleged incidents.
Joi Dickerson-Neal filed a lawsuit against Combs last year, alleging that he drugged and assaulted her at her Harlem apartment in 1991.
She also claims that the media mogul videotaped the assault without her consent and later shared the footage with his friends, according to the Associated Press.
Dickerson-Neal was 19 years old at the time.
Her lawsuit includes claims of revenge porn and human trafficking.
However, Diddy Combs’ legal team contends that the New York State Revenge Porn Law and the New York Services for Victims of Human Trafficking Law were not enacted until years after the alleged events.
Based on these grounds, Diddy Combs’ defense team is seeking to have the claims dismissed without prejudice.
Despite pushing for the motion, Diddy continues to deny all accusations against him.
He argues that Dickerson-Neal is taking advantage of recent legal changes that allow her to pursue claims against him through an extended statute of limitations.
This lawsuit is one of several facing Combs, including a significant case from his ex-partner, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura.
Ventura filed a lawsuit in November 2023 claiming she endured over a decade of abuse from Combs, a case that was settled just one day later.
Her allegations led to more individuals coming forward with their own claims against Combs.
In February, a record producer accused Combs of soliciting prostitutes and sexually harassing him.
The claims prompted FBI raids on Combs’ properties in Miami and Los Angeles.
Combs also stepped down from his role at media platform Revolt and has largely withdrawn from the public eye.
As Combs’ legal challenges mount, he maintains his innocence.
