Odell Beckham Jr. Sees Major Gains From Bitcoin Salary Deal

When Odell Beckham Jr. signed a deal to receive his $750,000 annual salary in Bitcoin back in 2022, the move raised more than a few eyebrows. The NFL wide receiver—known for his electrifying plays and off-field flair, decided to take a risk at a time when most athletes preferred traditional paychecks.
Critics called the decision bold, maybe even reckless. But nearly four years later, Beckham’s patience is paying off in a way few could have predicted.
At the time of his contract, Bitcoin was riding high at over $64,000. Soon after, the bottom fell out. By late 2022, Bitcoin had tumbled to under $20,000, and many wondered if Beckham’s gamble had turned into a financial fumble.
But the story didn’t end there. As of this week, Bitcoin has soared to an all-time high of nearly $122,000, doubling since Beckham first put his faith in cryptocurrency. Financial analysts estimate that Beckham’s 2022 salary originally $750,000, is now worth approximately $1.39 million.
Beckham hasn’t been shy about celebrating the turnaround. Taking to social media, he wrote, “Sooooo bitcoin is at an ALL TIME high today… safe to say we still happy with our decision. Let’s see what crypto week talkin about.”
His story is part of a growing trend among professional athletes experimenting with digital currency. Russell Okung, a former Carolina Panthers lineman, was one of the first to opt for Bitcoin salary payments, turning half of his $13 million annual salary into a $20 million stake when the market surged.
Still, Beckham’s journey is a reminder of the unpredictability that comes with innovation. His decision looked risky when the market was down, but his willingness to play the long game has paid off—and provided a lesson in both patience and trust in new financial frontiers.
