Omaha Police Hold Terence Crawford at Gunpoint During Stop

Undisputed boxing champion Terence Crawford was held at gunpoint during a late-night traffic stop in Omaha on Sunday (Sept. 28), just hours after a hometown parade in his honor.

Video of the encounter shows the 38-year-old unbuckling his seatbelt, exiting his vehicle with hands raised, and telling an officer, “I ain’t reaching for no gun,” before being patted down.

In a statement, the Omaha Police Department said officers around 1:30 a.m. observed a vehicle “driving recklessly” near North 12th and Capitol Avenue and initiated a stop at Cass Street.

While speaking with the driver, an officer “observed a firearm on the driver’s side floorboard.” For safety, police said, all four occupants were ordered out at gunpoint. Authorities later confirmed all four were licensed to carry.

According to reports, Crawford requested that a supervisor and a lieutenant respond to the scene; police said that request was granted. Representatives for the fighter have been contacted for comment.

Later Sunday, the city announced a “thorough and transparent” internal investigation into the stop. Officials also urged residents to keep sight of the celebratory weekend, which marked Crawford’s latest milestone: a statement win over Canelo Álvarez that moved his record to 42–0 and made him only the second fighter of the four-belt era to become undisputed in three weight classes.

(Earlier multi-division feats by greats like Henry Armstrong and Bob Fitzsimmons predate the modern four-belt system.)
