Is WWE Doing Enough for Black Male Wrestlers?

Recently, people have been talking about how WWE promotes its Black male talent. This conversation started after a tweet pointed out that Black wrestlers haven’t had many big wins lately.

When WWE’s Paul “Triple H” Levesque was asked about this, he responded with, “I don’t see color.” For many Black fans, that comment felt out of touch. While it’s unlikely Levesque meant anything negative, his words came across as ignoring the concerns that some fans and wrestlers have about representation.

The question is, though: does WWE really have a problem promoting Black male wrestlers?

Professional wrestling is about more than just fighting; it’s about creating characters and telling stories. Wrestlers have to build strong personas that fans connect with, and then they face off against other characters in the ring.

Historically, WWE hasn’t always given Black talent as much screen time or big matches, but things are changing. WWE’s current roster is one of its most diverse ever, with a wide range of backgrounds and personalities. In NXT, rising Black stars like Carmelo Hayes, Trick Williams, and Oba Femi are building their characters and attracting fans.

Fans are also seeing more Black wrestlers in key storylines. For example, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, popular members of The New Day, are part of a developing storyline, even though they aren’t in the main event right now.

The truth is, wrestling has traditionally been a mostly white space, both in its fans and its wrestlers. So, while Black wrestlers are still fewer in number, it doesn’t mean WWE isn’t trying to be more inclusive.

WWE has been making changes, and the future for Black wrestlers looks promising. As new stories and characters unfold, WWE seems to be working toward a more diverse and inclusive lineup.

For now, fans will need to wait and see how these stories play out. WWE’s recent direction shows they’re moving in a good direction, featuring more Black wrestlers and building characters that fans can connect with.

If WWE keeps this up, we might be seeing one of the most inclusive eras of WWE history, with more exciting stories and wrestlers for everyone to enjoy.
