Louis Gossett Jr., the First Oscar-Winning Black Actor, Passes Away at 87

Louis Gossett Jr., the amazing actor known for being the first Black man to win both a supporting actor Oscar and an Emmy for his iconic role in the groundbreaking TV miniseries “Roots,” has died at the age of 87. 

His cousin, Neal L. Gossett, confirmed his passing to The Associated Press, revealing that the actor died in Santa Monica, California.

The family released a statement announcing Gossett’s death on Friday morning, although no cause of death was disclosed.
