Michael Jackson's Music Soars to New Streaming Heights Following Biopic Premiere

In an extraordinary comeback that has gained worldwide attention, Michael Jackson’s music has reached new streaming highs following the hit biopic Michael, almost two decades after the “King of Pop” passed away. This trend shows the lasting cultural influence of Jackson’s catalogue. It also reflects how films continue to change how we listen to music in 2026.

According to industry data from Kworb, Jackson has become the #1 artist on the Global Digital Artist Ranking for May 2026. He has surpassed modern chart stars like Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and Bad Bunny. Kworb’s monthly list shows Jackson leading the global streaming charts with 11,157 ranking points. This is nearly 5,000 ahead of the next artist. This is a strong indication of the late icon’s renewed popularity in the digital era.

On major platforms, streaming has increased remarkably. In the United States, Jackson’s solo catalogue garnered 137.5 million on-demand streams in the week after the film’s theatrical release. This includes timeless classics like Thriller and Billie Jean, as well as lesser-known tracks rediscovered by new audiences. It marks a 146% rise compared to the week prior, according to Billboard data.

Industry leaders see a clear connection between cinematic storytelling and digital listening. “We’re witnessing a rare cultural moment where the emotional impact of a biographical film drives listeners back to the source.” Maria Reynolds, a senior analyst at Music Data Insights, says: “It’s defining the narrative of global music consumption in 2026.”

This idea was reinforced at the Uber Eats Music Hall in Berlin, where the film Michael premiered in April. Thousands of fans gathered to celebrate Jackson’s life and legacy. Antoine Fuqua directed the biopic. It features Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson. It opened strongly at the box office, earning an estimated $97 million during its debut weekend in the U.S. and over $217 million internationally. These numbers rank it among the highest-grossing music biopics ever.

“Bringing my uncle’s story to the big screen was about honouring a legacy.” Jaafar Jackson told reporters at the film’s Los Angeles premiere. He highlighted the emotional and artistic bond that audiences around the world have rediscovered.

The streaming revival also includes The Jackson 5 and The Jacksons. These have seen significant increases, with their collective catalogues experiencing double-digit percentage rises in plays across platforms.

As Michael continues its global theatrical rollout and audiences look forward to the film’s streaming releases, Jackson’s climb on the charts marks a significant moment. It reflects the lasting impact of a cultural icon whose work continues to shape the music landscape of the 21st century.
