Nelly Slams Kamala Harris for Marrying a White Man and Her Role in Black Men’s Incarceration

When rapper Nelly took the mic on Ebro In The Morning, he wasn’t trying to ignite a political firestorm—he was trying to explain himself, heart on sleeve. “I’m not pro-Trump,” he said quietly but firmly. “I’m pro-respect. Respect for the office. Respect for the people. Respect for myself.”

It was a moment of clarity in a culture that often takes sides before listening. Back in 2017, Nelly agreed to perform at Donald Trump’s Liberty Ball—and seven years later, some people are still angry about it.

But for Nelly, it wasn’t about endorsement. It wasn’t about headlines. “Just like soldiers serve their commander-in-chief, I showed up for what the presidency represents,” he said. “Not who’s sitting in the chair.”

But the conversation didn’t stop there.

After the interview, Nelly went online to share something personal, his frustration with Vice President Kamala Harris’s past work as a prosecutor. He didn’t mince words. He said the justice system she represented once locked up more Black men than he and Snoop Dogg have helped through their community work.

“We’ve been pouring into our people for decades,” Nelly wrote, referencing scholarships, job programs, youth leagues. “Not just talk—real change, real effort, real proof.”

And then he said something that got people talking: “We celebrate a Black woman with a white husband and biracial kids, but some people tear down Black men with Black wives and kids. That don’t feel right.” It wasn’t bitterness. It was reflection. A challenge to think about what support and representation really look like.

As the internet erupted—some cheering him on, others calling him out, Nelly kept his focus clear: “This ain’t about politics. It’s about people. It’s about us.”

He didn’t backtrack. He didn’t sugarcoat. He simply reminded everyone what he’s built over the years, far away from cameras and controversy.

“I stand on what I’ve done,” he said. “That’s where my pride lives.”
