MLB All-Star Game Honors Hank Aaron’s Historic Home Run With Special Tribute in Atlanta

This year’s Major League Baseball All-Star Game delivered a powerful tribute to one of baseball’s most iconic moments: Henry “Hank” Aaron’s legendary 715th home run, which surpassed Babe Ruth’s long-standing record.

The annual event, held in Atlanta, the city where Aaron made history, used modern graphics and a light show to recreate the unforgettable moment from April 8, 1974, when Aaron hit his record-breaking home run at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.

The tribute was broadcast live on Fox between the sixth and seventh innings, captivating viewers and fans inside Truist Park.

As the video played, cameras focused on Aaron’s widow, Billye Aaron, who received a standing ovation from the crowd. Players from the National League also honored Aaron by warming up in practice jerseys emblazoned with his iconic No. 44.

The tribute follows last year’s 50th anniversary celebration of Aaron’s historic feat, which included the announcement of a new statue at the Baseball Hall of Fame and a commemorative U.S. Postal Service stamp. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred also shared that the Atlanta Braves have created a $100,000 endowment for a scholarship at Alabama’s Tuskegee University, Aaron’s home state.

A 25-time All-Star, Hank Aaron set multiple records during his Hall of Fame career, including 2,297 RBIs, 1,477 extra-base hits, and 6,856 total bases, before being inducted into Cooperstown in 1982. Though Barry Bonds eventually surpassed Aaron’s home run record in 2007, the Hammer’s legacy remains a towering presence in the game.
