Ne-Yo is stepping into the world of Broadway, joining the cast of the Alicia Keys-inspired musical Hell’s Kitchen for his debut on the Great White Way.
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter will begin performances on Dec. 4 at the Shubert Theatre, taking on the role of Davis, the father of Ali, the show’s 17-year-old heroine loosely based on Keys. The production, which won the Tony Award for Best Musical, blends Keys’ catalog with a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of a vibrant New York City neighborhood.
Ne-Yo described the move as a chance to tap into a new form of artistic expression. “I’ve performed on a lot of stages in my life, but making my Broadway debut in Hell’s Kitchen is something truly special,” he said in a statement. He praised Keys for creating a world that is “real, raw, and full of soul,” and said inhabiting Davis allows him to explore “a whole new side of storytelling.”
Though new to Broadway, Ne-Yo is no stranger to theatrical performance. In 2015, he starred as the Scarecrow in NBC’s live broadcast of The Wiz, earning praise for his turn in the classic role. His casting in Hell’s Kitchen continues his evolution from chart-topping recording artist to versatile stage performer.

Alicia Keys welcomed Ne-Yo’s arrival, calling his presence a powerful addition to the production. “His special talent is going to bring even more magic to this powerful show,” she said, noting that the musical is ultimately about “finding community” and “finding your place,” both onstage and off.
Ne-Yo joins a high-profile lineup of performers entering the company. Gospel icon Yolanda Adams is set to appear as Miss Liza Jane, while R&B singer Tank will also step into the role of Davis. The core cast includes Amanda Reid, Jessica Vosk, and Tony winner Kecia Lewis.
With a career spanning nearly two decades, Ne-Yo has written and performed hits for himself and superstars like Beyoncé and Rihanna, moving fluidly between pop and R&B. His Broadway debut comes as he approaches the 20th anniversary of his breakout album In My Own Words, marking a new milestone in an already storied career. He is scheduled to perform in Hell’s Kitchen through Jan. 25, with tickets for the limited run currently on sale.
