Severance star Tramell Tillman made history at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night, becoming the first Black man to win Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
Tillman, who portrays the exacting floor manager Seth Milchick in Apple TV+’s dystopian drama, triumphed in a field that included castmate Zach Cherry, James Marsden (Paradise), John Turturro (Severance), Sam Rockwell (The White Lotus), Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus) and Walton Goggins (The White Lotus). The award marked Tillman’s first Emmy nomination and first win.
Accepting the trophy, Tillman paid tribute to his mother and early support system.
“You remember what you want to remember. You make time for what you want to make time for, do the work, show up, and most importantly, for the love of God, don’t embarrass me in public,” he said, before adding:
“My first acting coach was tough, y’all, but all great mothers are. Mama, you were there for me when no one else was… This is for you… I am humbled, I am honoured. And as my mama would say, ‘look at God.’”

He added, “My first acting coach was tough, y’all, but all great mothers are. Mama, you were there for me when no one else was and no one else would show up. Your loving kindness stays with me, and this is for you.
Thank you to the Academy. I am full. I am humbled. I am honored. And as my mama would say,
‘look at God.’”
The category was presented by Jude Law and Jason Bateman, the third award of the evening following the comedy lead acting prizes, which went to Seth Rogen (The Studio) and Jean Smart (Hacks).
Tillman’s breakthrough arrives as Severance continues to be a critical and cultural force, with the series earning praise for its world-building and ensemble performances. His win adds a new chapter to the show’s awards profile and marks a milestone for representation in one of the Emmys’ most competitive drama fields.
Additional winners from the 2025 Emmys were announced throughout the night.
