Angel Reese Pays Tribute to Baltimore With New Reebok Sneaker Release

During WNBA All-Star Weekend, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese unveiled her latest signature sneaker in collaboration with Reebok, and it comes with a name that flips internet trolling into branding gold.

The new release, called the “Angel Reese Mebounds,” draws from a viral nickname attributed to Reese’s unique style of play—particularly her ability to grab her own missed shots. What some critics coined as “mebounds” to mock her performance, Reese has now turned into a trademarked slogan and a marketable identity.

“All mine. Not yours (yet),” the second-year star captioned a launch post on social media.

Reese, never one to shy away from online banter, addressed the origin of the term in a TikTok video where she credited fans—both supporters and skeptics, for popularizing “mebounds.”

“Whoever came up with the ‘mebounds’ thing, y’all ate,” Reese said. “Because ‘mebounds,’ rebounds, crebounds… anything that comes off that board, it’s mine.”

She acknowledged the criticism, even the memes and altered images that have circulated online, but with characteristic confidence, she made clear that the noise doesn’t shake her. In fact, she embraces it.

“That’s six figures right there,” she said, alluding to the branding potential. “The trolling, I love when y’all do it because the ideas be good.”

The move signals a broader shift in how athletes—particularly Black women—are reclaiming language once used to diminish them. Rather than push back against the term, Reese trademarked it, partnered with Reebok, and built a brand around it.

The “Angel Reese 1 Mebounds” sneaker is more than just footwear, it’s a cultural statement. It reflects her unapologetic personality, her savvy understanding of branding, and her ability to control the narrative both on and off the court.

Reese closed her TikTok message with another nod to the creators of the term.

“Statistically, all the rebounds I get aren’t just mine. They’re team rebounds or defensive rebounds. But when y’all came up with ‘mebounds’ y’all really ate with that.”
