Black Businesses Hits $1.98 Trillion in Q1 2025

In 2025, Black Americans’ buying power is set to reach an incredible $1.98 trillion (Nielsen, Selig Center for Economic Growth).

That’s more than the entire GDP of many countries. But this isn’t just a number, it’s proof of how much influence, unity, and ambition exist in our community.

Buying Black is on the rise. Since 2020, searches for Black-owned businesses have more than doubled on Google, and over 60% of Black consumers say they’re intentionally buying from Black-owned brands (McKinsey, 2024).

Movements like #BuyBlack and Small Business Saturday are not just trending, they’re changing where our dollars go and who benefits from them.

Our influence shapes what’s hot. The households are leaders in setting trends, especially in beauty, music, fashion, and technology.

In fact, Nielsen reports that consumers spend $573 million on hair care, $810 million on men’s grooming products, and are 42% more likely to be first adopters of new tech. When we support each other, entire industries take notice.

Brands are listening. After 2020, big names like Target and Nike doubled down on inclusive marketing, and 80% of major brands increased their investment in diversity campaigns aimed at Black audiences (Adweek, 2023).

But we expect more: 68% of shoppers say they stay loyal to companies that show real commitment to inclusion and representation (McKinsey, 2024).
