Brooklyn Rapper Sheff G Gets Five Years for Attempted Murder, Two Years After Trump Rally Appearance

Brooklyn drill rapper Sheff G, real name Michael Williams, was sentenced to five years in prison on Oct. 1 after pleading guilty to second-degree attempted murder and conspiracy charges tied to gang violence in Brooklyn. He will serve five years of supervised release after prison.

Prosecutors said Williams used earnings from his music career to bankroll violence by the 8 Trey Crips and its affiliate, the 9 Ways gang. In announcing the sentence, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said, “This defendant had talent and opportunity, but chose to use them to fuel violence instead of building a better future.”

Prosecutors had sought a 20-year term before Williams entered his plea earlier this year.

Williams was among more than 30 defendants charged in the case; 23 have pleaded guilty, with seven cases still pending. His attorney, Arthur Aidala, said the plea deal was in “the best interest of everyone involved.”

The sentence comes less than two years after Williams and fellow rapper Sleepy Hallow (Tegan Chambers) appeared with Donald Trump at a May 23, 2024 rally in the Bronx, where they drew widespread attention.

“They’re always going to whisper your accomplishments and shout your failures,” Sheff G told the crowd. “Trump’s gonna shout the wins for all of us.” Sleepy Hallow added, “Make America Great Again.”

Sheff was part of a crew of more than 30 alleged members of the 8 Trey Crips, and the gang’s affiliate, the 9 Ways gang. Twenty-three members have pleaded guilty to various charges. Seven cases are still pending. Sleepy Hallow, whose real name is Tegan Chambers, who appeared with Sheff when they both performed onstage with Trump on May 23, 2024, at a Bronx park, received a one-year sentence last week on conspiracy charges to which he pleaded guilty.

Last week, Sleepy Hallow received a one-year sentence after pleading guilty to conspiracy in the same probe.
