Carson Wentz Joins Kansas City Chiefs as Backup Quarterback

Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is set to make a new start with the Kansas City Chiefs, as reported by NFL Media.

The 31-year-old has signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs, becoming the newest addition to Andy Reid’s coaching roster and stepping into the role of Patrick Mahomes’ backup.
Wentz’s journey to Kansas City has been marked by multiple team changes over the past few years.

He last played for the Los Angeles Rams, where he served as Matthew Stafford’s backup for three games in the previous season.

Despite the frequent moves, Wentz’s performance has garnered positive attention, particularly during his brief tenure under Sean McVay with the Rams, where he helped secure a crucial Week 18 victory on the road to the playoffs.

With the Chiefs, Wentz fills the void left by the departure of Blaine Gabbert, who remains unsigned in free agency.

Known for favoring experienced backups, the Chiefs see Wentz’s 93 career starts as valuable insurance behind superstar Mahomes.

Originally drafted by the Eagles in 2016, Wentz spent the first five seasons of his NFL career in Philadelphia.

The Ups and Downs of Carson Wentz Career

During his time there, he emerged as a potential MVP candidate in his second year, though his season was cut short by a late-season ACL tear.
Despite setbacks, Wentz played a significant role in the Eagles’ historic Super Bowl run.

However, inconsistency plagued Wentz’s subsequent seasons with the Eagles, leading to his departure ahead of the 2021 campaign.

Traded to the Indianapolis Colts, Wentz’s stint with the team lasted only one season before he was traded once again, this time to the Washington Commanders.

His time in Washington was brief, and he later joined the Rams in November 2023. Now, as he joins the Chiefs, Wentz embarks on a new chapter in his NFL journey, aiming to contribute his experience and skillset to the reigning AFC powerhouse.

With the support of Andy Reid and the Chiefs’ coaching staff, Wentz looks to make the most of this opportunity and contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
