As the high-profile sex trafficking trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs approaches its final phase, prosecutors are working to convince the jury of a pattern of control and abuse allegedly exerted by the music mogul over those in his inner circle.
In court on Thursday, June 20, prosecutors read aloud a series of text messages between Diddy and his former girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura. In one message, Ventura accused Combs of treating her “like a hooker,” writing, “You treat me like a hooker to be honest.
You always want to call one and you have one. This hooker has been here for 10 years.” Combs reportedly responded, “Wow.”
Prosecutors also introduced into evidence a conversation dated May 2, 2017, in which Ventura referenced a 2016 hotel incident and described ongoing violence throughout their relationship.
“That’s not love, that’s possession,” Ventura wrote. “As soon as you get f**ked up, you drag me down the hall by my hair.”
In his response, Combs allegedly wrote, “Everyone else sees you acting like a b**ch,” and added, “If I did that for another girl she would’ve been so nice and happy.” He continued, “I wish I didn’t waste my time and energy on you.”
The defense presented its own evidence, including a text from Ventura to Diddy that read, “I love our FO’s, when we both want it.” Defense attorneys have argued that elements of mutual consent existed in the relationship.
Testimony on Thursday also included Brendan Paul, Combs’ former assistant, who described his experience working for the entrepreneur.
Other witnesses who have appeared during the trial include rapper Kid Cudi, Cassie Ventura and her mother, former Danity Kane singer Dawn Richard, former assistant David James, hotel security staff, multiple sex workers, a special agent, and a clinical psychologist.
Combs, 54, is currently facing several serious charges: one count of racketeering conspiracy, two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
He was arrested in New York City on September 16, 2024, and remains held without bail at MDC Brooklyn.
The trial is expected to continue into July.
