A custom-built Range Rover commissioned for NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal has gone missing while being transported from Atlanta to Louisiana, prompting a multi-agency investigation and a public reward for tips.
Effortless Motors, the dealership overseeing the build, said the luxury SUV disappeared on Oct. 20 during third-party transport. The company believes the carrier’s internal systems were compromised and that perpetrators may have impersonated the shipping firm to take possession of the vehicle.
“Upon the vehicle’s scheduled delivery, it was discovered that the company’s internal systems had been compromised and hijacked, resulting in the car being unlawfully taken during transit,” Effortless Motors said in a statement, calling the incident a “highly coordinated criminal act.” The dealership said it is working with law enforcement and federal investigators to recover the SUV and “hold those responsible accountable.”
The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia confirmed it is investigating whether a fake carrier was used to intercept the shipment.
The vehicle, valued at about $180,000 before upgrades and expected to reach roughly $300,000 after customization, carries a $10,000 reward for information leading to its recovery. Effortless Motors previously worked with O’Neal on restoring Kobe Bryant’s 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser, which was gifted to Bryant’s mother, Pam, on Aug. 23—what would have been the late star’s 47th birthday.
