Diddy Seeks $100 Million in Defamation Suit Against Accuser and NewsNation

Sean “Diddy” Combs has escalated his legal fight over what he claims is severe reputational harm, filing an amended lawsuit seeking $100 million from Courtney Burgess and cable network NewsNation. The move comes after a split verdict in his federal RICO trial earlier this year.
Burgess appeared on NewsNation in October 2024, accusing Combs of sexual assault and claiming to possess video evidence. Diddy initially filed a $50 million defamation suit against Burgess prior to his criminal trial, but has now doubled the damages sought and added NewsNation as a defendant, alleging the outlet broadcast “wild lies and conspiracy theories” without objectivity.
“In this pitiful spectacle, all pretense of objectivity has been abandoned,” the lawsuit states, accusing Burgess and his attorney of being “among the worst perpetrators” in promoting false narratives.
Neither Burgess nor NewsNation has publicly responded to the updated filing.
Diddy, 55, was acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges in his RICO case but was convicted of transporting prostitution, an offense carrying a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
Federal Judge Arun Subramanian denied his bail request, citing his domestic violence history and ruling there were no “exceptional reasons” to waive mandatory detention.
The hip-hop mogul remains in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn ahead of his sentencing scheduled for October 3. While a presidential pardon from Donald Trump has been floated as a possibility, no formal action has been taken.
