Heaven Howard Shares Childhood Abuse Story to Raise Awareness

Share

Heaven Howard, daughter of actor Terrence Howard, has publicly shared her experience of childhood sexual abuse, revealing that she was molested by her cousin at the age of seven.

In an emotional Instagram video posted earlier this week, Howard spoke about the trauma, linking her decision to share her story to her involvement in the new short film, Princess Love.

“I forgive him,” Howard said in the video, her voice filled with emotion. She explained that her cousin had also been a victim of abuse, stating, “I don’t cry because of him. It’s not that.

I hurt for him because when he was two years old— he was just a baby. He was raped, so when he was 12, he did something to me. He deserved to be protected, but he wasn’t.”

Howard expressed her gratitude for Chris Dabney, the writer-director of Princess Love, and his portrayal of generational abuse. “I am so lucky to be a part of it. I’m so grateful to be able to speak and put a name to it.

I am not afraid. I am not ashamed. I am proud,” she shared. She urged viewers to watch the film, saying, “Do not pity me. Watch and understand that this happens. Don’t look away.”

Princess Love features Howard as 16-year-old Madison, a young woman who becomes pregnant as a result of sexual assault after the death of her mother. According to IMDb, the film follows Madison as she navigates her ordeal and turns to her father, Mark, played by Eric Roberts, for support.

The film is currently available on demand on Prime Video, Apple TV, and YouTube.

Howard’s decision to speak publicly about her own experience highlights the themes of trauma and resilience explored in Princess Love.
