Inside Onyx Impact’s New Lab Defending Black Truths Online

In today’s digital world, disinformation has become a powerful weapon—especially against Black communities. From voter suppression campaigns to misleading health narratives, false content spreads quickly online, eroding trust and silencing voices.

To fight back, Onyx Impact has launched the Information Integrity Lab, a groundbreaking initiative designed to counter digital lies and defend Black truths with technology, media training, and trusted community partnerships.

At the heart of this effort is the Digital Green Book, an AI-powered platform that helps users detect misinformation, connect with reliable Black-led news outlets, and safeguard their digital presence. Drawing inspiration from the historic Negro Motorist Green Book, the platform serves as a modern roadmap for navigating truth in an online world clouded by manipulation.

Early pilot programs with outlets like The Washington Informer and influencers such as Elizabeth Booker Houston have already shown success in driving engagement and building trust.

Beyond technology, the Lab focuses on strengthening Black-led journalism and amplifying authentic voices online. By training publishers, partnering with cultural influencers, and equipping communities with tools to fact-check information, Onyx Impact is laying the foundation for digital justice.
