NBA icon Michael Jordan has made a landmark $10 million donation to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C., paving the way for a new neuroscience institute that will bear his mother’s name.
The facility will be renamed the Novant Health Deloris Jordan Neuroscience Institute, recognizing Deloris Jordan’s lifelong commitment to community wellness.
The gift brings Jordan’s total contributions to Novant Health Foundation to $27 million, supporting a partnership that has already led to the creation of four Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinics serving underserved communities in Wilmington and Charlotte.
In a statement, Michael Jordan said the donation reflects values instilled by his mother. “My mother taught me the importance of compassion and community, and I can’t think of a better way to honor her than by helping to ensure those in need can obtain the most advanced neurological care available,” he said.
“I’m proud to continue partnering with Novant Health to expand access to world-class healthcare in my hometown.”
The new institute will advance research and treatment in brain health, expanding access to cutting-edge neurological care across southeastern North Carolina. It will house leading specialists and advanced technology for conditions including stroke, spinal disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and other complex neurological challenges.
Deloris Jordan said the tribute carries deep personal meaning. “As a mother who raised my family in Wilmington, I know how access to quality care shapes a community,” she said. “Understanding the brain helps us care for the whole person. It is humbling and deeply meaningful to be a part of bringing high-quality care to more people in North Carolina.”
The Novant Health Deloris Jordan Neuroscience Institute is expected to be officially unveiled at a dedication ceremony in early 2026.
