Mike Tyson Sued Over Use of JAY-Z, DMX, and Ja Rule Track in Jake Paul Fight Promo

Boxing legend Mike Tyson is facing a new lawsuit from music producer Ty Fyffe, who claims Tyson used his work without permission to promote last year’s highly publicized fight against Jake Paul.

Filed on August 7, the complaint alleges that Mike Tyson featured the track “Murdergram”, a 1998 collaboration between JAY-Z, DMX, and Ja Rule, in a social media clip advertising the bout. The song originally appeared in JAY-Z’s film Streets Is Watching. Neither the artists nor their representatives are named in the lawsuit.

According to court documents obtained by Billboard, the disputed video, which has since been removed from Tyson’s social media, included the caption: “You know what time it is #PaulTyson.” The lawsuit claims this implied an endorsement or affiliation between Fyffe and Tyson.

“Neither plaintiff nor any of his representatives granted defendant Tyson permission to use the song title ‘Murdergram’ to promote his boxing match with Jake Paul,” the filing states.

Claims of Financial Impact

The suit argues that Tyson’s use of the track helped generate interest in the fight, which went on to break Netflix viewing records. Fyffe is seeking a share of Tyson’s earnings from the event, along with royalties for the song’s use.

“Defendant Tyson’s conduct was intentional, willful and with full knowledge of plaintiff’s copyright in the song,” the complaint reads, adding that the producer has suffered—and will continue to suffer—economic losses.

The Fight and Its Outcome

The Mike Tyson–Paul fight took place on November 15, 2024, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The high-profile bout ended in a unanimous decision victory for Jake Paul.

Neither Mike Tyson nor his representatives have publicly commented on the lawsuit as of press time.
