Oyetola Idowu Appointed Global AI Delegate to the UK by GAFAI

The Global Alliance for Fair and Inclusive AI (GAFAI) has announced the appointment of Oyetola Idowu as its new Global AI Delegate to the United Kingdom, a move that underscores the organization’s mission to promote ethical, fair, and human-centred artificial intelligence.

In her new role, Idowu will represent GAFAI at regional and international forums, working to advance transparent and accountable AI. She is also expected to spearhead the establishment of a GAFAI-UK chapter, fostering collaboration among regulators, academia, industry, and civil society.

Her portfolio will include supporting projects that apply responsible AI in public health, service delivery, and digital inclusion, while providing regular reports and insights on UK developments that align with GAFAI’s principles of ethics, fairness, and human-centred design.

“By bringing together thought leaders such as Idowu, GAFAI aims to ensure that advances in artificial intelligence contribute to sustainable development, equitable access, and public trust,” the organization said in a statement led by Mohamed Al Marri, Executive Board Member & CEO.

A Decade of Digital Leadership

With more than 13 years of experience in digital product service delivery across the NHS, public sector, and private consulting, Idowu brings deep expertise in digital transformation, policy implementation, and responsible AI practices.

She has worked as a digital product manager and IT business analyst, leading initiatives in data transformation, process re-engineering, and enterprise-level innovation. Beyond practice, she is a researcher and co-author in the field of responsible AI for healthcare, governance, and ethics, and is a frequent writer and public speaker on AI and digital equity.

Her academic background includes an MSc in Big Data Analytics from the University of Derby (UK), alongside professional memberships and certifications such as MBCS, ITIL, and MCP. She is also a mentor and volunteer with sustainability and digital inclusion initiatives, particularly through the NHS Green Network.

Accepting the appointment, Idowu said she sees the role as both “a privilege and a responsibility.”

“I am honoured to serve as GAFAI’s Global AI Delegate to the UK,” she said. “This role is about championing ethical, transparent, and human-centred AI that improves lives, strengthens public services, and fosters digital equity.

I look forward to working with regulators, academia, industry, and civil society to ensure that AI becomes a true force for inclusive development—not just in the UK, but across the globe.”
