Quinta Brunson Says ‘Abbott Elementary’ Could Be Wrapping Up as Cast Eyes New Projects

Looks like our favorite TV classroom might be getting dismissed for good! Quinta Brunson, the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning genius behind Abbott Elementary, just revealed that the beloved show could be coming to an end soon.

In a recent chat with Bustle, Quinta Brunson kept it all the way real. After five seasons of keeping us laughing (and sometimes tearing up), she says the grind is real and the cast is ready to try new things:

“We are so fortunate and blessed to be on a network TV show for five seasons and for people to still be fans. That being said, I have cast members who would love to pursue other projects, and our show is very time-consuming.”

She explained that filming eats up almost seven months of the year, so for actors with big dreams (and trust, this cast is talented!), that can make it hard to do anything else.

What’s next for Quinta Brunson? Sis isn’t sitting still! She’s got scripts stacking up and is looking for that next project that gives her that “this is it!” feeling. Plus, after being everyone’s favorite teacher Janine, she’s ready to show us a different side and step out of the classroom:

“I’m always interested in playing against type. Right now, my type is ‘Janine’ and ‘teacher.’ I’m looking forward to moving away from that a little bit.”

Fans have feelings about this news—some begging for more episodes, others rooting for a graceful, high-note exit:

  • “Girl, cuz y’all drop new seasons every month like slow down, but please don’t stop 😭😭”
  • “I’ll miss them, but I’m all for a graceful exit and leaving on a high note.”

One thing’s for sure: Abbott Elementary gave us a lot—representation, humor, and that warm, fuzzy feeling. However it ends, the impact is already set!
