R&B singer Sammie has spoken publicly after his arrest in Georgia on assault and child-cruelty charges stemming from an alleged domestic incident.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Oct. 26, the 38-year-old artist (born Sammie Lee Bush Jr.) thanked supporters and appeared to challenge the allegations. “I’m gonna let God have his say, and the courts have their say, and the truth shall set you free,” he said, adding, “I appreciate y’all… Thank y’all for the concerns.”
According to Henry County authorities, Sammie was booked on Oct. 19 on suspicion of first-degree battery as family violence and third-degree cruelty to children following an incident involving his partner, Teanna Reid, and their child. Police allege he assaulted Reid while the child was present. He was released after posting a $1,050 bond.
“Happy Sunday, first and foremost. I’m gonna let God have his say, and the courts have their say, and the truth shall set you free,” Sammie said in the post. “Love. I appreciate y’all. Thank y’all for the concerns. Love.”
Sammie’s message came a day after he performed at One Musicfest in Atlanta on Oct. 25, a two-day event at Piedmont Park featuring acts including Future, Clipse, The Roots, Ludacris, Wale, Chief Keef, Jazmine Sullivan, and Doechii.
A former child star, Sammie broke out with the 1999 hit “I Like It” from his gold-certified debut From the Bottom to the Top (2000). His later projects include Sammie (2006), Everlasting (2019), and several EPs and mixtapes.
Sammie has not entered a plea publicly, and a court date was not immediately available. His representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
