Rymir Satterthwaite Withdraws Paternity Case Against JAY-Z But Says the Fight Isn’t Over

Rymir Satterthwaite, the Philadelphia man who has spent over a decade trying to prove he is the son of music mogul Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter, has announced he is withdrawing his civil case, but insists the legal retreat is not a sign of surrender.

In a video message posted on social media this past Saturday (July 26), Satterthwaite directly addressed growing speculation following news of the case dismissal. “I have not stopped my fight,” he said. “I did withdraw my case, but it’s for a reason. I have not gotten a settlement. It is not over.”

Satterthwaite, now in his 30s, has long claimed that his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, had a romantic relationship with JAY-Z in the early 1990s, which he says resulted in his birth in 1993.

His allegations have repeatedly been denied by JAY-Z’s legal team, who have characterized them as a “fabricated” and “harassing” narrative that has already been “addressed and rejected” by the courts.

Still, Satterthwaite remains determined. In previous interviews, including a widely circulated feature with the Daily Mail, he openly challenged the hip-hop icon to submit to a paternity test. “If he is not [my father], why can’t he prove me wrong?” he asked. “Go to the courtroom and do what everyone else has to do.”

He added, “I can take a no. I can take being embarrassed. I’ve been through a lot. I just can’t take him not saying anything. It’s not fair. I am coming to the courts for the truth.”

Satterthwaite has consistently maintained that his motivations are not rooted in fame or financial gain. “I would never hate JAY-Z. I respect him for everything he did,” he said. “Me and my mom and my godmother have seen the worst in people. Slandering my name, saying I want JAY-Z’s money. That’s never been what this is about.”

His mother, Wanda, publicly supported her son’s claims before her death in 2016. In a recorded statement from April of that year, she said, “I want the world to know that I support my son in his paternity suit with Shawn Corey Carter. I stand by my allegations regarding this man.”

Despite the emotional toll and mounting legal obstacles, Satterthwaite insists his pursuit is far from over. “I’m going to fight until I am not here no more,” he said. “If it takes another 10 years, another 50. I may take this to the grave with me. But everyone will know I fought this until the end.”

At the time of reporting, JAY-Z has not made any public statements regarding the latest developments in the case.
