Black-Owned Connect Music Raises $80M, Expanding Ownership in Music

Connect Music, a Black-owned music rights and technology company, has announced a significant financing milestone by raising $80 million in new capital. This funding will help expand its catalog acquisition, licensing capabilities, and artist-focused tools.

Rockmont Partners and Variant Investments led the funding round. It represents a key moment in the ongoing shift toward more ownership and economic power for independent music creators.

Founded in 2020 by George Monger, who is the CEO, Connect Music has quickly grown from a startup to a competitive player in the music rights space. Monger’s journey into the music business started with artist management and nonprofit leadership.

He later served as chief operating officer for the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. These experiences shaped his commitment to artist ownership and clear revenue models.

“This investment represents significant growth capital for Connect Music and the artist partners we serve,” Monger said in a statement. “It gives us the ability to grow aggressively while staying true to our mission: empowering creators to maximize their earnings while owning their art, their data, and their future.”

Connect Music’s platform combines music rights administration with data analysis. It offers independent artists and small labels access to tools that were traditionally available only to major players.

With the new funding, the company plans to enhance its strategy for acquiring music catalogs and licensing contracts while using artificial intelligence to create more revenue streams for creators.

Industry partners view this $80 million investment not just as financial support but as a vote of confidence in Connect Music’s mission. Curt Futch, managing director at Rockmont Partners, highlighted the company’s unique mix of operational strength and creator-focused values.

“George’s ability to pair operational discipline with a deep commitment to creators has set us apart at every stage,” Futch said, recognizing the firm’s growing reputation.

Connect Music’s roster and partnerships demonstrate its increasing influence. The company has collaborated with artists and producers linked to hits like “Blow My High” by Dee Mula. It has also worked with Grammy-nominated producers Mike & Keys, alongside artists including Sauce Walka, Don Trip, and Boosie Badazz.

In an industry where Black creators have often faced low pay and limited ownership, Connect Music’s growth signals a move toward fairness and empowerment. For Monger, the $80 million milestone isn’t just about finances; it validates a model that values ownership as much as artistry.

“Managing artists and running a nonprofit taught me that talent alone isn’t enough,” Monger said. “Artists deserve systems that honor their creativity and secure their future.”
