Real Madrid’s midfielder, Jude Bellingham, faces a two-game suspension after an alleged display of aggression towards referee Jesus Gil Manzano during a recent match. The incident occurred when Bellingham protested a decision by the referee by yelling, “It’s a f**king goal,” shortly after the full-time whistle was blown.

In a statement to the press, Bellingham expressed his disbelief at the suspension, labeling it “ridiculous.” He speculated that his recent arrival in La Liga might have contributed to the decision, suggesting that new players may face heightened scrutiny for dissent.

Bellingham acknowledged his responsibility for his actions, admitting:

“I don’t think I said anything offensive, or different from my teammates. I feel like sometimes, because I’m new, they want to set an example, which I’m cool with, and at the end of the day, I have to be responsible for my actions. I gave them a reason to send me off.”

“In the end I have to be responsible for my actions and I’m not proud, but I think two matches for that is a bit ridiculous, but if it’s two matches I have to take my responsibility and I’ll cheer from the stands.”

Refuting claims of aggression, Bellingham emphasized that he merely voiced his opinion and expressed frustration over the decision. He urged officials to consider the human aspect of refereeing when assessing player conduct.

“It is difficult to say anything because there are processes and investigations underway. What happened, happened, and he decided to blow his whistle. We all know what happened. You have to remember that the referee is human, but so am I, so it would be good if they took that into account when they’re judging my actions as they did,” Bellingham told Diario AS.

Real Madrid has announced plans to appeal the suspension, with Bellingham hopeful for a reduction in the ban. However, as it stands, he will miss upcoming matches against Celta Vigo (H) and Osasuna (A), returning to action on the 31st of March.
