Former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has strongly criticized Israel’s President, Benjamin Netanyahu. Pelosi, who served as the Speaker from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023, described Netanyahu’s presentation in the House Chamber as “by far the worst presentation of any foreign dignitary invited and honoured with the privilege of addressing the Congress of the United States.”
In a post on her official X handle on Wednesday evening, she expressed disappointment that many families had hoped for a ceasefire in the ongoing Gaza conflict and wished President Netanyahu would focus on that.
“Many of us who love Israel spent time today listening to Israeli citizens whose families have suffered in the wake of the October 7th Hamas terror attack and kidnappings. These families are asking for a ceasefire deal that will bring the hostages home – and we hope the Prime Minister would spend his time achieving that goal,” Pelosi stated.
During his speech, Netanyahu called for “total victory” in the war, diminishing hopes for a ceasefire and the possible return of Israeli hostages. He told the United States Congress that Israel’s fight is also America’s fight, asserting that they are protecting the US by engaging in Gaza.
Protests have erupted in the US, with demonstrators accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. The conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza has been ongoing since October, following a Hamas attack that resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people and the kidnapping of hundreds of others.
