The Weeknd Donates $2 Million to Provide 18 Million Loaves of Bread in Gaza

Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye has pledged an additional $2 million in humanitarian aid to Gaza, providing 18 million loaves of bread to help families in the war-torn region.

This new donation from the singer’s XO Humanitarian Fund will support over 157,000 Palestinians for the next month, according to Variety.

Coordinated with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the funds will supply 1,500 metric tons of fortified wheat flour to families in Gaza.

The Grammy-winning artist’s latest contribution follows a $2.5 million donation in December 2023, which provided 820 metric tons of food parcels to feed 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks.

WFP Director Corinne Fleischer praised Tesfaye’s ongoing support as a crucial lifeline in Gaza’s food crisis.

“Abel’s generous support will provide vital relief for thousands of Palestinian families who face hunger daily,” she said.

Tesfaye’s philanthropy extends to multiple causes, including supporting Los Angeles’ School of Wheels, which aids homeless students, and providing funds for COVID-19 relief, Ethiopia, Lebanon, and more.

Barron Segar, president and CEO of World Food Program USA, expressed gratitude for Tesfaye’s continued contributions.

“Hunger is a human-made problem, and it is solvable. We have enough food in this world to feed everyone; all we need is the funding and safe access to make it happen,” he said.

Thanks to Abel’s designation, families and children will receive the food they so desperately need.”

According to the announcement, the mission of School on Wheels is to enhance educational opportunities for children who are the most disadvantaged in the city. His donation will support the below programs as well as software.
