14-Year-Old Charged with Murder After Calling 911 to Report Killing His Parents

A Middleburg family is grappling with an unimaginable tragedy after a 14-year-old boy allegedly killed his parents inside their home and then called 911 to confess the crime. Trevor Lee, who is now in custody, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder following the deaths of 44-year-old David Lee and 45-year-old Brandi Smith.

Sheriff Michelle Cook confirmed the news during a press conference, revealing that Trevor Lee made the call from a church early Monday morning, telling authorities he had killed his parents. Deputies found the bodies of David and Brandi inside their home, located near Silver Point and County Road 220, both victims of apparent gunshot wounds.

The crime has left the local community stunned, especially close friends of the family. Kyree Beamon, a family friend, shared his disbelief with News4JAX, recalling how he had known the Lees as a loving and caring family.

Beamon, who had been friends with Trevor since elementary school and played football with him, described them as “probably the best, or one of the best families” he knew. He added, “They treated me very well. They told me all the time that they loved me like a son, and they treated me as such.”

Just hours before the tragic event, Beamon spoke with Trevor, who called him after midnight to say goodnight and express his love. Beamon could not confirm whether Trevor made the call before or after he contacted authorities.

Sheriff Cook stated that a weapon, believed to belong to the couple, was found at the scene, and that Trevor left it behind when he walked to the nearby church about a mile away to make the call. Deputies apprehended him at the church shortly after.

The sheriff’s office is still investigating the incident, with detectives working to understand the full circumstances. Initial reports suggest that an argument between Trevor and his parents on Sunday night led to the deadly shooting.

Despite the shocking nature of the event, Beamon emphasized that Trevor is not defined solely by his actions on that night. “Trevor isn’t a bad person; he made some bad decisions, and he will suffer the consequences, but that’s not all he was,” Beamon said. “He was a great friend, great brother, great son.”

Sheriff Cook assured the community that there is no ongoing threat to public safety, but the investigation is still ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 904-264-6512 or to submit tips via Safer Watch.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and all those impacted by this heartbreaking event,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Our thoughts remain with them as they navigate this unimaginable loss.”
