Hainault Sword Attack: Marcus Monzo in Court for Schoolboy Daniel Anjorin's Murder

A community in Hainault, London, is mourning the death of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin, who was fatally attacked with a sword on his way to school.

The Metropolitan Police have charged 36-year-old Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo with murder, alongside two counts of attempted murder, two counts of grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed article. Monzo is scheduled to appear in court today.

How Hainault Killing Happened

The attack occurred on Tuesday morning and left four others injured, including two Metropolitan Police officers who were responding to the scene. The officers, who tried to stop Monzo, sustained serious injuries during the incident.

Daniel was a student at Bancroft’s, an independent school that expressed deep sorrow over his death. “Daniel joined our school at the age of seven and became an integral part of our community. His academic dedication and kind character will be greatly missed,” a statement from the school read.

Floral tributes have been left in memory of Daniel, reflecting the deep loss felt by the school and the wider community.

Monzo, who was injured in a car crash and hospitalized after the attack, faces serious charges for his alleged actions. Chief Crown Prosecutor Jaswant Narwal confirmed the charges against Monzo and emphasized the severity of the situation.

Jaswant Narwal, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Marcus Arduini Monzo with the murder of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin, who was fatally stabbed in Hainault on Tuesday, April 30.

A further four people – including two police officers – were seriously injured, and Monzo has also been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary and possession of a bladed article.”

This tragic incident brings the issue of knife crime into focus, with renewed calls for stronger measures to address this growing threat.
