Serena Williams, recently set social media abuzz with a cryptic tweet suggesting a possible return to tennis. The 42-year-old legend took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a message that has since gone viral.
“I’m ready to hit some balls again,” Serena Williams wrote in a tweet that has garnered nearly a million views, sparking excitement among her fans and the tennis community.
Serena Williams, who began her illustrious career in 1995, has won numerous major tournaments and, alongside her sister Venus Williams, revolutionized women’s tennis.
Her last match was at the US Open in September 2022, where she lost in three sets to Ajla Tomljanović. Despite announcing her retirement, Williams has consistently hinted at a potential comeback.
During the TechCrunch Disrupt event in San Francisco, just a month after the 2022 US Open, Williams said, “The chances (of me returning) are very high. But at the same time, I’m so happy.
I want my daughter and my family to be ahead of me. It’s interesting how women think, and I like that we think that way, and I think that’s what makes us so special.”
While fans eagerly await an official announcement, Serena Williams is also making waves off the court. She recently launched a new cosmetics line and is set to host the ESPY Awards in July.
“This is a dream come true for me and something I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember,” Williams said in a recent statement.
“It has been a sensational year for sports and an unprecedented one for female athletes. I can’t wait to celebrate everyone on stage in July.”
As speculation about her return continues, the tennis world remains hopeful that Serena Williams will soon be back on the court, potentially tying the record for the most Grand Slam titles by a single player.
